…a wild dream to build an observatory is born
1999
During Cornwall’s total solar eclipse of 1999, and with the aim to raise some funds to kickstart the project, bought and sold a batch of eclipse glasses to the local community, and in the process develop some interest. During this time, also applied for registration with UK governments Companies House and charity commission. The search begun for a suitable site and after finding an ideal location applied for planning permission.
2000
Planning permission was granted, bank account opened, board of directors and executive committee formed, aplication for grant money processed, and work commenced.
2001
Procured a hut which would form the community centre, that was refurbished and moved on site.
2002
Grants were secured from County and Cory environmental trusts. Work commenced on-site; installing water supply, laying track, and initiating construction of the twin domes.
2003
Construction of the domes complete.
