Est. in 1999, The Observatory For Cornwall, is a non-profit purpose built observatory, with the aim of providing the general public with free access to observe Cornwall’s pristine night sky.

The OFC is situated within the quaint sleepy foothills of Chacewater, Cornwall, and neighbouring an impressive and historic grade II listed mine which dates back to 1872. The site within which OFC is built on in-fact was an active mine steeped in heritage that has recorded mining activity from as early as 1666. When visiting the OFC, If you look hard enough, you’ll even find evidence of past mining activity, with a disused shaft that has since been capped.

For the past two decades, the OFC has gone through two separate construction phases. The first initiated during the early 2000’s, that following issues of vandalism, has since undergone a renewed effort, reconstructing the community centre, services and facilities and restoration to the two purpose built domes.

The aims of the project, which are further outlined below, are to provide free access to practical astronomy in a purpose built centre. With a like minded and engaged community of members, our aim is to also provide education to the community and schools, in the fascinating subject of celestial astronomy.
